LEGEND-ARY STATUS

The first time Dustin played Buddy Guy's Legends in Chicago, Buddy Guy jumped up on stage to jam with him.  Dustin did an encore performance at the venue in February 2013.  I am sure Legends will be a regular tour stop for the Dustin Pittsley Band.

FULL COURT PRESS

"I am a Dustin Pittsley super-fan, and like the rest of us who enjoy his live performances, we've been waiting forever for this cd. It was well worth the wait. First of all I was blown away by Dustin's vocals. The mix of acoustic and electric was a great decision. Donnie Wood is one of the best bass players, bar none. Doug Wehmeyer sets the pace and it's a rocking pace on most of the songs. Together they are one of the tightest 3-piece bands around anywhere! Dustin wrote or co-wrote 10 of the 11 songs on this cd. That's very unusual for a 24 year old, and I know he has plenty more songs in him."
— Staring Into The Sun (Dec 29, 2012)

"Dustin Pittsley is already a star. Half an hour ago Brad Absher, once king in his adopted hometown, played this stage to a smattering of applause. Now Pittsley, all of 18, commands a threatening throng that blocks the festival gates. They're here to see this young hot-shot set his guitar on fire. He doesn't do that literally, like Hendrix, but he takes Hendrix's finesse--opens his set with 'Hey Joe', no less--and hokey tricks (scratching an itch by playing an entire jam behind his head). Pittsley's liable to kick Lenny Kravitz off MTV and show the world what real rockin' soul sounds like."
— Rockin the Tulsa Blues Festival (Dec 29, 2012)

As close to delta-style blues as anything on this recording, Dustin Pittsley says as much with his guitar as he does with his lyrics.  This song leaves an awful lot of room for musical improvisation, so I imagine in a live setting it is incredibly amazing.  And maybe there is improvisation going on here, one never knows, because it is a finished product.  It's easy to imagine Brian Horton telling Dustin to "just let 'er rip" while recording this.  The guitar solos could go on forever, theoretically, but they can't in a studio setting because of time constraints.  Leave it to Dustin to make the most of every breathing second of this recording.  Just put this track on repeat, close your eyes, and enjoy over and over and over and over.  I say Dustin did this song in one take.  It is easy to see he certainly owns it.

DUSTIN'S BIO

Dustin Pittsley, based in Tulsa, OK, has gained a buzz in music conversations around Oklahoma and the Midwest for years now. Known as a flame-throwing guitar player since his teens, he has grown into a prolific songwriter and singer, while his guitar prowess has continued to expand and grow in versatility. Singer/songwriter Ian Moore says, “Dustin has the kind of soul that you need to be a real player. When he sings and plays it’s not just his voice and hands, it’s his soul talking through them, and that makes it a special thing.”

His music stretches across many genres including blues, rock, country, soul, and jazz—much like his predecessors and originators of the Tulsa Sound—and his high-octane live show is not to be missed. Highly recommended for fans of Gov't Mule, The Allman Brothers Band, or Doyle Bramhall.

The group, who is sponsored by Jagermeister, has won the Blues Society of Tulsa's 2012, 2010, 2009, and 2005 Blues Challenge and represented them at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN where in 2010 they were named the "Beale Street Blues Kings".
