Los Angeles-based of Verona has been playing at SXSW this week to rave reviews from fans and industry alike, and one of those appearances includes a gig the duet, comprised of Mandi Perkins and Dillon Pace, played as part of the Jivewired/Captiva #SBTAX event at The Rooftop On Sixth on March 18th. Of Verona rode into Austin on a wave of critical acclaim, and their performances have only strengthened their growing appeal. Their music is catchy and groovy, an enchanting mix of indie rock with an electro-pop heartbeat.

The song (and the video) for Dark In My Imagination offers a high degree of payout, yes?
It surfs on a pulsing and booming lo-fi lower end while Mandi's vocals wring genius out of the entire composition. And speaking for this song specifically, I think it answers the question of "What would Mette Lindberg sound like if she collaborated with Trent Reznor?" It's wonderful to see a band explore the darker side of the elctro-pop genre and this song is as good as it gets.
Of Verona stands out because they can have fun with moody, broody sensibilities like this. Dark In My Imagination is heavy and dark, but also fun in a trippy hypnotic and mesmerizing way. Mandi and Dillon lead with expressive, textual sound elements but hook the listener through a simple lyrical structure that counterbalances the complexity of the underlying music: a repetitive lyrical hook paired with a repetitive bass line in verse-chorus-verse format. The brilliance of the song lies in the poetic simplicity of the lyrics though there is a wonderful beauty in its ethereal melody that cannot be discounted.
In addition to our gig, of Verona also performs showcases for Quantum Collective, McDonald's and Tune In Radio at SXSW this week. Be sure to catch them if you can. MTV featured them as a Band to Know stating, "If you like melodic rock and roll with great female vocals like Florence & The Machine, you'll definitely dig of Verona."

of Verona's Jivewired Bio: Los Angeles based of Verona, whose members hail originally from Toronto and New York, are fronted by charismatic female lead singer and songwriter, Mandi Perkins, and multi-instrumentalist and producer, Dillon Pace. The band recently released their debut album, The White Apple, which was written, produced and mixed by the band at their Hollywood studio. The album is a collection of songs about realizing what is real and what is an illusion and learning to tell the difference; It's about letting go of the things that cannot be changed. The name of Verona comes from Shakespeare’s earliest known play, Two Gentlemen of Verona, which has the smallest cast of any of the Shakespeare plays. The band imagined it as the underdog of sorts, surviving on the sheer virtue of its story.
of Verona's sound can best be described as a blend of futuristic/indie rock with an electro pop heartbeat. Their song Dark In My Imagination is received play on specialty stations such as KCRW, has over 800,000 plays on SoundCloud, over 1Million plays on You Tube and was #1 on the influential Hype Machine popular chart in Feb 2015 for four days. They have played a number of notable events including Lollapalooza, Filter Magazine’s Culture Collide Festival, the Summerfest Music Festival, MTV’s Woodies Festival, Live In The Vineyard, SXSW, Las Vegas Amplified Music Festival and two recently packed shows in London, UK. Regarding their live show, the Examiner recently stated: “It has been said in the past that some bands create a wall of sound; of Verona creates a tsunami of sound that crashes down all around the venue, sweeping the audience away in the pure pleasure of the moment.”
Mandi recently inked a publishing deal with Zach Katz at BMG Publishing and Dillon with Ron Perry at Songs Publishing and they have had over 20 TV synchs since the release of their album on shows such as Grimm, Pretty Little Liars, Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Teen Wolf, and Stalker.
