Each December we do our pledge drive. We call it a pledge drive because Jivewired Radio isn't going anywhere, with or without donations from our friends, fans and listeners. We love indie music, and further, we love promoting indie music far too much to ever stop radio broadcasting.
Jivewired Radio is a professional broadcasting platform, fully licensed, and we pay royalties via Live365 through SoundExchange, BMI and ASCAP. In almost all cases, we buy the music that we broadcast, even after many artists send us their stuff for free. I think many of the bands that we work with at Jivewired are genuinely surprised when we buy their music. It's a small price to pay when you think of the smiles that having Jivewired Radio brings to all of us here in the office.
At any rate, if you'd like to donate, we've set up some one-time donation options. We spend about $15,000 per year to broadcast Jivewired Radio and the station is managed by unpaid interns and volunteers. Money that we raise this month basically goes into a pool for those volunteers so each can have a year end bonus for their incredible efforts and for their belief in what we are trying to accomplish in niche music promotion.
And it also goes to buy music. Each December we set our goal to raise $2,500. Of monies raised, 80% is given to our interns and volunteers and the remaining 20% is used to purchase indie music , the very music that we stream directly to our listeners.
