Voting has begun for the Land The Big Gig Contest. Three winning bands will get to play Summerfest and an opportunity to collect a $20,000 payday.

For those who vote, you are automatically registered for a chance to win $2,000, plus an all-expenses paid trip to Milwaukee for five days (including airfare, hotel for five days, general admission tickets to Summerfest and $20/day spending money).

Please vote for Jivewired Bands and thank you.  You can vote for five bands each day through June 17th.  And we have five bands who have entered, so that works out quite nicely.

Here is a brief summary of each of the Jivewired Bands that have entered.

Mikey Ohlin

Onstage, Mikey Ohlin becomes both a lion and a lamb.

Born and raised in Texas, Mikey Ohlin's music takes you on a journey to the Southwestern landscapes of Americana. Listening to his first full length, home-recorded album, Gypsy Witch Jeweler, you get a sense that the years of big sky, and dust blown plains he's called home have lent to his songs their sunburned grit and lonesome voice.

Expertly alternating the melodies of trembling, vulnerable verses with vehement choruses that swell into a howl; he breaks to drop and fade into the outro with a crumbling falsetto. It is as effortless as it is blatantly on display for all to bear witness - the violence of his conviction that you will not soon forget.

Dimitri's Rail

DR is a four piece modern rock band from Texas. They released their first EP with Universal Music Group/Fontana “Wake Up” through Indie Extreme / Desert Highway Records in 2010. The title track, “Wake Up”, received airplay on major market radio stations KTBZ 94.5 The Buzz in February of 2010, reaching #51 on the national play list for the station. The band continued to sustain a top 10 national ranking on the Clear Channel New Music Network which is used to select artists for national airplay.

With this success, DR received airplay nationally with the single “Will Never Break” from their upcoming release of their national debut album in February of 2011 on KMOD/Tulsa, KNCN/Corpus Christi,WHEB/Portsmouth, WRQK/Canton, WTKX,Pensacola,\WXEG/Dayton and WXTB/Tampa, Rock 103.9 Bryan College Station.

The Bourgeois

the (booj-wah)

A cancer-curing, sperm-obliterating, behemoth of a rock band with a sound akin to Billy Corgan and Kurt Cobain molesting Morrissey in Josh Homme's basement.

Hydra Melody

Hydra Melody has been been a band for 7 years and in the last year they were busier than ever before and things aren’t slowing down any time soon. The band toured extensively this last year, performing for huge crowds on the East and West Coasts and everywhere in between. They opened for Every Avenue, The Early November, Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown, Minus The Bear and The Toadies, and performed at festivals such as Never Say Never (McAllen, TX), Driven Music Festival (Atlanta, GA), SXSW (Austin, TX), and the CMJ Music Marathon (NYC). Hydra Melody also chalked up extensive hometown airplay on 99.5 KISS-FM and 90.1 KSYM-FM in 2012 and, most recently, were musical guests on Daytime at 9 on FOX-29 and Great Day SA on KENS-5. Finally, the band’s latest video, ‘California’, has already garnered over 25,000 YouTube views. Hydra Melody is currently writing the next album, excited about releasing it early summer 2013!

Well Hung Heart

There is no mistaking the bluesy undercurrent that forms the bedrock of Well Hung Heart's raw and uncompromising Rock sound. British born guitarist Robin Davey cut his teeth with the Blues elite, jamming onstage with the likes of Buddy Guy and recording with Mick Jagger. Davey quickly secured a place as the youngest ever inductee into the British Blues Hall Of Fame, and has built a reputation as an eclectic and cutting edge musical mind.

Singer Greta Valenti grew up amongst the deep-rooted musical traditions of New Orleans. Though the two's early years were spent on opposite sides of the Atlantic, they have both found common ground in their passion for the raw honesty of music, delivered in its most unprocessed and unrestricted form.

With a dose of Hendrix, and a nod to PJ Harvey, Well Hung Heart is just as comfortable channeling Nirvana as they are Leadbelly or Led Zeppelin.

Well Hung Heart record just as they play live - stripped down to the core, void of multiple takes and studio trickery. Well Hung Heart finished off their first year in existence with high profile shows both sides of the Atlantic. Appearing at London's prestigious O2 Academy, and the Make Music Festival in Pasadena, opening for Grimes, Grouplove and Cults.

Well Hung Heart acknowledge that though their influences might stem from the roots, their approach to finding an audience is very much in the present. With a series of self-directed Youtube videos establishing the band's presence, Well Hung Heart have managed to build a burgeoning fan base, both with their blistering live performances, and their creativity in the digital age.

ABOUT THE MONDAY MIX

The Monday Mix airs from 12:00PM to 5:30PM CDT each Monday and is designed to help you get through that brutal after-lunch, energy-sucking span that kicks off every work week. This particular show will be a mix of old, deep album cuts and new indie music with a lot of genre crossover. No Adele. Sorry.

What else does The Monday Mix do? Well, it helps you discover new indie music by combining some really great under the radar tracks with more established songs that were, once in fact, under the radar as well. The hope here is that the culture shock of discovering your next favorite band won't be so enormously imposing if we surround the new stuff with some of your old, familiar friends.

Jivewired supports independent musicians by paying royalties for airplay on Jivewired Radio. Please help us support indie artists by listening to our station and by purchasing indie music. Thank you.

The links on the radio player will give you download options if you really dig on the music and some of the songs are offered for free.

To listen, just press play on the radio widget to the right or use this link to open in a new window that will allow you to listen when you navigate away from this page:
